Hellenic culture initiatives launched in Australia
The Monash Hellenic Students’ Society (MHSS) has launched a new collaboration with the ‘New Greek for Adults’ department of the Greek Community of Melbourne (EKM). The initiative, driven by Monash University students, provides Greek language courses for young adults at all proficiency levels. Currently, over 80 students are enrolled in the program, which meets weekly at the Monash University Clayton campus. The curriculum aligns with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and offers preparation for official Hellenic Language Certification examinations.
In Sydney, the ‘Greek Spirit’ group exhibition is exploring themes of identity, memory, and belonging. Curated by Dr. Vassilis Adrahtas and held at The Castellorizian in Kingsford, the exhibition features works from seven artists as part of the 12th International Summer University. The artists use various mediums, including textiles, painting, and mythological themes, to interpret the human condition and the enduring influence of Hellenic philosophy and culture.
