Hellenic Football Federation celebrates 100 years in Thessaloniki

The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) celebrated its 100th anniversary with official ceremonies in Thessaloniki. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and EPO President Makis Gagatsis.

During the celebrations, Čeferin praised the progress of Greek football under the current administration, noting that while improvements in club relations and refereeing are needed, the future looks bright. He also emphasized that football is not for sale, a subtle reference to recent discussions regarding the privatization of the World Cup.

In response to these comments, Gagatsis stated that the EPO has taken a clear stance in support of UEFA, expressing a lack of confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino following recent incidents.

Parallel to the centenary, the UEFA Executive Committee met in Thessaloniki, making decisions regarding future tournament venues, including the 2028 Champions League final in Munich and the 2029 final at Camp Nou. The festivities also included grassroots initiatives such as the ‘Football for Schools’ program, featuring legends from Greece’s Euro 2004 winning squad.
