Hellenic Higher Education Authority postpones private university evaluations

The Hellenic Higher Education Authority (Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency - ETHAAE) has postponed scheduled on-site evaluations for four undergraduate programs at three non-state universities operating in Greece. The visits, which were slated to begin on October 21, 2026, and conclude by the end of the month, have been put on hold for reasons that have not yet been clarified by the agency.

The affected programs include Leadership Studies at Georgetown University Greece, Medicine and Law at the University of Keele, and Greek Law at the University of York Europe Campus – CITY.

This postponement coincides with a legal intervention by Panos Lazaratou, a professor of Administrative Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Lazaratou issued an out-of-court notice to ETHAAE, challenging the legality of the procedures used to form the evaluation committees. While Lazaratou suggests his intervention may have prevented an unlawful process, ETHAAE has not officially confirmed if the postponement is linked to his legal action.
