Hellenic Organ Transplant Organization denies organ loss due to blood shortages

The Hellenic Organ Transplant Organization (EOM) has issued a statement to reassure potential recipients following reports regarding the possible cancellation of solid organ transplants due to blood shortages.

In a post shared by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, the EOM clarified that no organ has ever been lost due to a lack of blood. The organization emphasized that transplantation is treated as an urgent medical procedure and is covered with priority.

While acknowledging the difficulties caused by reduced blood supplies during the summer months, the EOM noted that cooperation with the National Blood Transfusion Center (EKEA) and hospital blood banks remains effective. The organization stressed that all efforts are being made to ensure that domestic donor organs are successfully transplanted to recipients within Greece.
