Hellenic Parliament denies reports of increased MP allowances
The Presidency of the Hellenic Parliament has denied reports that decisions were made to increase parliamentary allowances. The rumors suggested potential raises for committee participation fees and rent allowances for MPs.
The controversy arose during a parliamentary session following claims by Zoi Konstantopoulou, leader of Plevesi Eleftherias, who criticized the alleged increases, citing the economic struggles of citizens. In response, presiding officer Paris Koukoulopoulos clarified that no such increase was announced or pre-announced by Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis. He noted that while the issue had been raised by members, no formal proposal or decision has been reached, and any such matter would require the consultation of political parties.
