Hellenic Parliament illuminated for World Cerebral Palsy Day
The facade of the Hellenic Parliament was illuminated to observe World Cerebral Palsy Day, serving as a symbolic gesture of awareness and support for those living with the condition and their families. The initiative was carried out following a request from the 'Porta Anoichti' Spasticity Protection Society.
World Cerebral Palsy Day, observed on October 6, aims to raise social awareness regarding this neurodevelopmental disorder. Globally, more than 18 million people live with cerebral palsy. Statistics indicate an incidence rate of approximately 3.6 cases per 1,000 infants, with recent increases linked to higher rates of premature births and low birth weight.
While the condition presents various challenges to daily autonomy, advancements in modern rehabilitation programs have significantly improved the quality of life and life expectancy for adults. In Greece, the 'Porta Anoichti' society provides essential services, including education, therapy, psychological support, and residential care for over 240 children and adults.
