Hellenic Parliament to fund housing for essential workers in Kastellorizo

The Hellenic Parliament has announced a project to renovate two residential properties on the island of Kastellorizo to provide free housing for essential public service workers. With a total budget of €150,000, the initiative aims to support doctors, nursing staff, and teachers serving on the remote island.

Nikitas Kaklamanis, President of the Parliament, announced the plan during a visit to the island alongside Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The visit coincided with commemorations for the 83rd anniversary of Kastellorizo's liberation. The project will be implemented in cooperation with local government authorities to address the lack of available housing, which has been identified as a major obstacle to staffing health and education sectors in remote Greek islands.
