Hellenic Police evaluate crime prevention efforts in high-risk settlements

The Hellenic Police are conducting a major evaluation of the Prevention and Mediation Teams (OPDI) following nearly one year of operational activity in high-crime settlements, primarily those inhabited by Roma communities across Greece.

Police officials report positive preliminary results, stating that the initiative has successfully met its core objectives of crime prevention and enhancing security for all residents. The program aims to provide safety without targeting specific social groups, a point emphasized by Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, who stated that security must be provided to all citizens without exception.

The operational presence of these teams has reportedly eliminated previously inaccessible areas, allowing police to conduct activities at any time, including difficult night hours. The upcoming evaluation at the Police Headquarters will identify errors or omissions to refine future strategies, ensuring more effective and targeted operations for the benefit of these communities.
