Hellenic Red Cross conducts breast cancer prevention campaign
The Hellenic Red Cross has implemented a nationwide initiative focused on the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. Through its Mobile Health Team, the organization conducted 80 community actions across Greece between October 2022 and October 2026, reaching both major urban centers and remote, rural areas.
These interventions included awareness sessions, information campaigns, and clinical screenings held in public spaces, companies, hotels, social care facilities, and correctional institutions. The program's results show that 3,000 individuals underwent clinical breast examinations, and 1,853 women received electronic prescriptions for digital mammographies or breast ultrasounds.
Additionally, 7,977 people—including women, girls, men, and boys—were trained in proper breast self-examination techniques. Feedback indicated that 58% of participants completed their annual preventive check-ups, while 15% reported difficulties obtaining referrals or appointments, particularly in remote regions.
