HELLENiQ ENERGY announces new energy storage investments in Romania

HELLENiQ ENERGY has announced plans to increase its investments in energy storage in Romania, aiming for a capacity of at least 500 MW by 2029. Through its subsidiary, HELLENiQ Renewables Romania, the group is developing a portfolio of hybrid solar and wind projects that include battery storage systems, as well as independent storage facilities.

The planned investments are intended to enhance the flexibility and stability of the Romanian energy system, supporting the integration of renewable energy and strengthening energy security. As part of this strategy, the company is evaluating the addition of battery storage systems to existing and operational photovoltaic parks, with a potential combined capacity of 170 MW / 680 MWh.

Mihai Darie, Director of HELLENiQ Renewables Romania, stated that integrating storage into renewable energy projects is a key priority for growth in the country. He noted that hybrid solutions have already assisted in obtaining more favorable grid connection conditions regarding both costs and commissioning timelines.
