HELLENiQ PETROLEUM funds 4.5 million euro forest restoration in Megara
Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, visited Megara to inspect ongoing anti-erosion and anti-flood works aimed at restoring forest areas damaged by summer wildfires. The project is funded by HELLENiQ PETROLEUM, which has committed a total of 4.5 million euros (excluding VAT) to the restoration efforts.
The interventions cover a total of 8,837 stremmata (approximately 883 hectares) across the jurisdictions of the Megara, Egaleo, and Thebes forestry offices. Specifically, the works in Megara cover 5,276.4 stremmata. The primary objectives are to stabilize burned soil, prevent erosion, and mitigate post-fire hydrological risks.
HELLENiQ PETROLEUM serves as the Restoration Contractor, initially allocating 3 million euros for studies and works in Megara and Thebes, with an additional 1.5 million euros dedicated to the Egaleo forestry office area within the Mandra-Sidiro particularly affected region.
