Helmuth Hübener: The young resistance fighter against Nazi Germany

Helmuth Hübener, a young German resistance figure, grew up in Hamburg during the rise of the Nazi regime. Despite being enrolled in the Hitler Youth, he became increasingly critical of the erosion of freedom and human dignity under National Socialism.

While working as an apprentice at the Hamburg city hall, Hübener gained access to information from outside the Nazi-controlled information bubble. Utilizing a shortwave radio brought home by his brother, he engaged in activities that challenged the regime's monopoly on truth, specifically by listening to foreign broadcasts such as the BBC, which was a punishable crime at the time.
