Helpline reports one year of support for dementia families

A summary of nearly one year of operation for the Helpline reveals that families of individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's disease struggle to find practical support. Approximately 84 percent of callers are relatives of those suffering from Alzheimer's or other dementias.

Data shows that roughly 70 percent of the advice provided focuses on locating specific forms of support within the patient's place of residence. Rather than seeking general information about the disease, families primarily require guidance on concrete actions, such as organizing daily care, accessing financial benefits, and contacting local social assistance centers (MOPS) or other local organizations.

Bartłomiej Chmielowiec, the Patient Rights Ombudsman, noted that callers often reach out after noticing concerning behavioral changes or upon receiving a diagnosis, feeling uncertain about how to proceed. The helpline aims to provide reliable information and direct users toward available institutions and benefits to ensure no one faces the disease alone.
