Helsing invests 18 million euros in Grob Aircraft for AI combat drones

Defense AI company Helsing has invested approximately 18 million euros into Grob Aircraft, located in Mattsies, Germany, following its acquisition of the manufacturer from H3 Aerospace. The company plans to invest an additional 10 to 15 million euros to expand production capacities and transition from prototyping to industrial implementation.

The investment has already led to workforce growth, increasing from 260 to approximately 320 employees. A primary focus of this expansion is the development of the CA-1 Europa, an AI-driven unmanned combat aircraft. Two prototypes of the CA-1 are currently being developed at the site, with the first flight scheduled for 2027.

By acquiring Grob Aircraft, Helsing aims to combine its software expertise, such as the Centaur AI pilot, with Grob’s experience in manufacturing aircraft in the three-to-five-ton class. The company is also preparing to build a new facility to support these advanced manufacturing and engineering requirements.
