Helsinki maritime traffic disrupted by unidentified metal object

An unidentified metal object was discovered in the sea near Helsinki on the evening of Saturday, October 3. The object, described as a leaf-shaped metal item approximately 40 centimeters in diameter, was found by a fisherman in the Kustaanmiekka strait.

Preliminary assessments by the Finnish Navy suggest the object is a very old mechanical part originating from a shipwreck. Helsinki police stated that they do not suspect any criminal activity and, as the object does not pose a danger, they are not continuing a formal investigation. The item has been towed to Santahamina for further study.

The discovery caused a temporary suspension of maritime traffic in the area, affecting vessels traveling to and from Helsinki's South Harbour. This led to significant delays for passenger ships, including the Viking XPRS, which was delayed for over five hours on its route to Tallinn.
