Helsinki tram construction site workers face harassment

Workers at a major tram construction site on Runeberginkatu in the Töölö district of Helsinki have been subjected to verbal abuse and physical harassment. The West Tram project (Länsiratikat) reported that employees have been shouted at, insulted, and in some instances, spat upon.

Project organizers noted that while residents' frustration regarding noise, traffic disruptions, and long-term construction is understandable, personal targeting and physical mistreatment of staff are unacceptable. The project emphasized that construction schedules and political decisions are not determined by the workers on-site. Feedback regarding the project's execution is encouraged through official channels rather than through personal attacks.
