Hematology and Thrombosis Congresses convene in Bilbao
The LXVIII National Congress of the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy (SEHH) and the XLII National Congress of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (SETH) are being held at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Barakaldo. The event has reached a record attendance, with approximately 2,400 professionals participating.
Key discussion topics include therapeutic advances for blood cancers, the application of artificial intelligence in hematology, and the challenges of integrating immunotherapy and gene therapy into daily clinical practice. Experts are focusing on the equity of patient access to these innovations, such as CAR-T cell therapies and bispecific antibodies, as well as the rigorous selection of candidates and continuous safety evaluations.
Additionally, leadership from the societies highlighted the need for specialized training, with Dr. M. ª Victoria Mateos advocating for an extension of the specialty's training program from four to five years to address the increasing complexity of the field.
