Hemerson Máximo reelected to lead Mato Grosso Municipal Association
Hemerson Lourenço Máximo, known as Maninho, has been reelected unanimously to lead the Mato Grosso Municipal Association (AMM) for the 2027–2029 term. Running under the “AMM + Forte e Presente” slate, Máximo received 111 votes from the participating mayors.
The election concludes a period of legal uncertainty following a suspension ordered by the 11th Civil Court of Cuiabá in September. The legal challenge, initiated by the mayor of Nova Xavantina, contested recent statutory changes including the extension of leadership terms from two to three years and new eligibility criteria for former mayors. The dispute was resolved after the municipality formally withdrew its legal action, allowing for the final vote count.
As president, Máximo aims to strengthen municipalism by increasing technical support for local administrators and intensifying dialogue with state and federal governments to secure resources for Mato Grosso's 142 municipalities.
