Hemus Motorway: New traffic rules at Topli Dol Tunnel from October 12

Starting October 12, new traffic regulations will take effect at the Topli Dol Tunnel on the Hemus Motorway due to ongoing repairs on the Sofia-bound tube. All vehicles will be diverted to two-way traffic through the Varna-bound tube, with a maximum speed limit of 50 km/h. The emergency lane will be unavailable, and no detour route is planned for the area. The Road Infrastructure Agency advises drivers to plan for extra travel time.

Temporary restoration of two-way traffic in both tubes is expected around December 18 to facilitate holiday travel. However, restrictions are scheduled to return in January 2027, with full construction completion projected for April 2027.

Regarding border crossings, traffic with Romania remains normal, though the Oryahovo–Bechet and Svishtov–Zimnicea ferry lines are suspended due to low Danube River levels. Border points with Greece, Serbia, and North Macedonia are also reporting normal conditions, with specific weight limits applying to certain crossings. High traffic intensity was noted at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing for outbound freight vehicles.
