Henderson Police reject ICE training expansion proposal
Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader has rejected a proposal to expand U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations at the Eldorado Valley Regional Training Facility. During a joint meeting between the Henderson Police Department and the City of Henderson, Rader removed the item from the agenda, stating the expansion was not permitted under the existing interlocal agreement between Henderson and Boulder City.
The proposal would have allowed ICE to develop a more permanent training presence at the facility, which is co-operated by Henderson and Boulder City and used by various Southern Nevada law enforcement agencies. Under the proposed plan, ICE would have constructed shared training areas and rented them to other agencies when not in use.
Opponents of the expansion, including a representative from the ACLU of Nevada, testified at the meeting, arguing that the community requires more input on matters involving federal immigration enforcement. Rader noted that the proposal had not been properly vetted and declared that the matter would not be considered further under the current legal framework.
