Hendrick Motorsports faces crew suspensions after William Byron's wheel failure

William Byron and his Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 team face penalties following a mechanical failure during the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. During the event, the left-rear wheel detached from Byron’s Chevrolet while he was running in fourth position, causing the car to crash into the outside wall.

The incident occurred after a pit stop where the crew only changed the right-side tires. Despite Byron alerting his team to concerns about the car's handling upon returning to the track, the wheel eventually came loose with 69 laps remaining.

As a result of the tire-and-wheel safety violation, two crew members—likely jackman Allen Holman and rear-tire changer Orane Ossowski—will serve two-week suspensions. They will miss the regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway and the Chase opener at Darlington Raceway. Additionally, the incident has impacted Byron’s championship standings, leaving the No. 24 team to start the final 10-race stretch outside the top 10.
