Hendrik Bolz releases new autofictional novel ‘Aus Ruinen’

Author, podcaster, and former rapper Hendrik Bolz has released his second autofictional novel, ‘Aus Ruinen – Junger Mann in Krisenzeiten’. The book serves as a follow-up to his debut, ‘Nullerjahre’.

Set largely in 2009, the narrative follows a young man moving from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Berlin. The story explores the cultural and social friction between his upbringing in an East German housing estate and the academic, West German-dominated environment of a Berlin university. The protagonist struggles to find his place amidst a landscape of perceived social divides and personal aimlessness.

The novel is noted for its harsh language and unflinching depiction of a protagonist dealing with identity, violence, and a sense of being an outsider. It incorporates autobiographical elements, reflecting Bolz's own experiences transitioning from the rap duo Zugezogen Maskulin to his current career as a writer and podcaster.
