Hendrik Streeck seeks nationwide solutions to combat drugs

Germany’s Federal Drug Commissioner, Hendrik Streeck, is calling for nationwide cooperation to address the rise of crack cocaine use. Streeck aims to bring federal, state, and municipal authorities together to develop unified solutions and pilot projects rather than allowing cities to act in isolation.

During a visit to addiction and mental health support facilities in Hamburg, Streeck met with Social Senator Melanie Schlotzhauer. They visited the Drob Inn, a contact and counseling center providing drug consumption rooms, medical care, and substitution treatments. They also visited the Pier27 psychiatric outpatient clinic, which serves individuals with mental illnesses who struggle to access standard healthcare.
