Henkell Freixenet acquires 60% stake in Cassidy Wines

German sparkling wine specialist Henkell Freixenet has acquired a 60 percent stake in the Irish wine importer Cassidy Wines. The company will continue to operate under the established Cassidy Wines name as part of the Henkell Freixenet group.

Founded in Dublin in 1977, Cassidy Wines has nearly 50 years of experience distributing wines and spirits to the Irish hospitality and retail sectors. The partnership aims to combine Henkell Freixenet’s international portfolio and global network with Cassidy Wines’ local market expertise and established customer relationships.

Henkell Freixenet CEO Andreas Brokemper noted that Cassidy Wines is deeply rooted in the Irish market. The move comes as the Irish sparkling wine market has seen an average annual growth rate of 6 percent over the last decade. Cassidy Wines will maintain its operations from its bonded warehouse in Citywest, southwest of Dublin.
