Henkel's former private‑label detergent production now led by McBride and Dalli‑Werke

Henkel sold its entire European private‑label detergent business in 2007 and thereafter concentrated on its premium brands such as Persil and Spee. The exit opened the market to new manufacturers. The British company McBride, headquartered in Manchester, has become the largest private‑label detergent producer in Europe, generating roughly £935 million in annual revenue. In Germany, the family‑owned Dalli‑Werke in Stolberg near Aachen, founded in 1845, is another key supplier for discount brands.

Industry experts note that many discount detergents match or exceed the performance of higher‑priced brands in independent tests, and that consumers often over‑dose detergent without improving cleaning results.
