Hennef city council proposes new public safety program

The CDU and SPD factions in the Hennef city council have submitted a joint motion to launch a city-wide program titled ‘Sicher im öffentlichen Raum’ (Safe in Public Spaces). The initiative aims to systematically identify and eliminate dark, neglected, or perceived unsafe areas throughout the city to improve security and quality of life.

The proposal focuses on enhancing lighting, visibility, cleanliness, and social control. A key priority is the improvement of underpasses, which are often viewed as unsafe spaces, particularly along school routes. As an immediate first step, the city plans to upgrade the tunnel underpass at the Meys-Fabrik with LED lighting and daylight-dependent switching.
