Hennepin County holds primary for county attorney position

Five candidates are competing in a nonpartisan primary to succeed Mary Moriarty as the Hennepin County Attorney. Because the race is nonpartisan, the top two vote-getters will advance to the general election on November 3.

The candidates include:

• Cedrick Frazier: A State Representative and former public defender who holds the Democratic Farmer-Labor (DFL) and labor endorsements. His platform includes protecting immigrants and supporting violence prevention.

• Anders Folk: A former Acting U.S. Attorney who previously signed the indictment against Derek Chauvin. He is running on a “public safety first” platform.

• Diane Krenz: A retired prosecutor with 40 years of experience in the office. She has criticized recent public safety reforms and aims to increase accountability.

• Hao Nguyen: A prosecutor with 16 years of experience and a former police officer, focusing his campaign on violent crime.

• Matt Pelikan: An attorney running on a platform to combat violent crime, fraud, and wage theft.
