HENNGE releases board game simulating local government IT challenges

HENNGE K.K. has announced the creation of ‘Joshisu Sugoroku: Local Government Edition,’ an original board game designed to simulate the real-world challenges faced by information system (IT) departments in local government.

Developed in response to requests from municipal IT staff, the game aims to help users experience the unique complexities of public sector IT management. Unlike the original corporate version released in 2022, this edition incorporates specific scenarios such as coordinating with mayors and assembly members, responding to sudden legislative changes, managing system procurement, and handling cybersecurity threats. It also touches on common frustrations, such as manual data entry tasks following digital transitions.

The game was developed with feedback from over 10 local governments across Japan to ensure authenticity. Players take on the role of an employee newly assigned to the IT department following spring personnel transfers, attempting to navigate their duties and maintain stability.

The board game is not for sale but will be available for trial at the ‘Local Government Informationization Promotion Fair 2026’ held at Makuhari Messe on October 27–28, 2026.
