Henri Maler, founder of Acrimed, dies at 79

Henri Maler, the founder of the media criticism association Acrimed, has died at the age of 79. The organization announced his passing in a statement, describing him as a man deeply committed to media scrutiny.

Born in 1946, Maler was a professor of philosophy and a lecturer in political science at the University of Paris-8. He founded Acrimed in 1996, an association that has historically criticized the concentration of major media outlets by financial powers. Maler served as the organization's primary figure until 2015.

In addition to his work with Acrimed, Maler authored books based on his thesis regarding Marx and co-authored several works on media and public opinion. He was a regular contributor to publications such as Le Monde diplomatique. Following his death, various political figures, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon, paid tribute to his work and his defense of democracy.
