Henri Pittier National Park hosts migratory bird monitoring
Specialists conducted a migratory bird monitoring and sighting session at Henri Pittier National Park as part of the International Migratory Bird Day and the ‘October Big Day’ global event.
A multidisciplinary team, including international ornithologists from Colombia, utilized advanced technology to monitor avifauna in areas considered key frontiers for bird movement. During the monitoring, experts identified at least six endemic bird species and two notable raptors: the tyrant eagle and the crested eagle.
Rafael Fernández, president of the Henri Pittier Scientific Society, noted that these findings hold high ecological and ecotourism value. Manuel López, president of Fundaparques, stated that monitoring occurs during migration periods, typically between September and October, when thousands of birds travel south to escape the cold.
