Henry Aguda resigns as DICT Secretary

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that Malacañang has accepted the resignation of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda. The announcement follows a period of uncertainty regarding Aguda’s leadership of the agency responsible for the country’s digital government programs.

Aguda’s tenure was marked by significant administrative scrutiny and public pressure. This included a controversial temporary 24-hour ban on the messaging platform Discord in September, which drew backlash from students, developers, and remote workers. The department also faced a fact-finding investigation by the Ombudsman’s office and legal challenges from the civic technology group BetterGov.PH regarding government internet projects and platform blocking.

Aguda assumed the role of DICT Secretary in March 2025, succeeding Ivan Uy. During his leadership, he oversaw flagship initiatives such as the eGovPH Super App. While the Ombudsman confirmed the resignation, official statements from the DICT and Malacañang had not been released at the time of the report.
