Henry Saragih appointed Secretary General of Indonesia's Partai Buruh

Henry Saragih, former coordinator of the international farmers' movement La Via Campesina and current chair of the Indonesian Farmers Union (Serikat Petani Indonesia), has been elected Secretary General of the Labor Party (Partai Buruh) for the 2026‑2031 term. The appointment was announced by party vice‑president Said Salahudin after a consensual decision by ten founding organizations during the Presidium meeting on 26 July 2026.

Salahudin noted that Saragih will replace the acting secretary and highlighted his experience in global agrarian networks, where he led La Via Campesina from 2004 to 2013. The party presented Saragih as a prominent figure with extensive international activism and domestic recognition.
