Henstedt-Ulzburg farm fire causes millions in damage
A major fire destroyed a farm and an adjacent thatched-roof house in Henstedt-Ulzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, during the night of Thursday, October 1, 2026. The blaze, which was reported around 10:25 PM, caused damage estimated in the millions of euros.
Emergency responders, including approximately 150 personnel and the Technisches Hilfswerk, worked to contain the rapidly spreading flames. Challenges included establishing long-distance water supply lines and using excavators to demolish parts of the structure to reach remaining embers.
Four people were treated at a hospital for minor injuries after being rescued from the burning buildings or found in the outdoor area. Additionally, two firefighters sustained minor injuries. The fire resulted in significant livestock loss, with reports indicating that dozens of calves died in the blaze.
