Hera Group inaugurates R3GID plastic recycling plant in Modena
The Hera Group, through its subsidiary Aliplast, has officially inaugurated the R3GID (Recover Recycle Regenerate Plastic) plant in Modena, Italy. The facility is designed to recycle rigid plastics from both municipal and industrial sources, including sectors such as automotive, cosmetics, consumer electronics, and furniture.
Representing an investment of 48.8 million euros—which includes 7.7 million euros from Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)—the plant can process up to 30,000 tons of polymers annually. The facility produces high-quality recycled polymers with a certified purity level exceeding 99%, making them comparable to virgin fossil-based materials.
The project aims to meet increasing demand driven by upcoming EU regulations, such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the End of Life Vehicles (ELV) directive. Industry leaders noted that while the European recycling market faces challenges from low-cost imports and high energy costs, high-quality, traceable, and certified recycled materials remain a strategic priority for the manufacturing sector.
