Heraklion couple faces trial for alleged abuse of three children

A 35-year-old mother and her 29-year-old partner are facing trial in Heraklion, Greece, following allegations of domestic violence against three children, aged 13, 8, and 6. The case was brought to light after neighbors reported hearing shouting and crying coming from an apartment near the city center.

Police officers from the Domestic Violence Response Office responded to the scene and encountered the couple and the children. According to reports, the minors described instances of physical violence, including being hit and having their ears pulled. One child allegedly reported being grabbed by the throat and struck in the ribs by the 29-year-old man. The defendants deny all allegations of abusive behavior.

The three children are currently being hosted at Venizelos Hospital in Heraklion, where they are scheduled to be examined by medical professionals and child psychologists to assess their health and living conditions. The trial, originally scheduled for Monday, was postponed to Tuesday, and the suspects remain in custody.
