Heraklion International Airport partners with ITE for technological innovation

The Foundation for Research and Technology (ITE) and the International Airport of Heraklion Crete (DAIK) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to integrate scientific research into the development and operation of the new airport.

The partnership aims to leverage ITE's technological expertise to develop and implement innovative solutions for current and future operational needs. A key component of the agreement is the use of the new airport's infrastructure as a real-world testing ground for pilot applications and the evaluation of new technologies under actual operating conditions.

Nikos Anastasiou, CEO of the airport, stated that the move is a significant step toward creating a broader research and innovation ecosystem for Crete. The company responsible for the construction and management of the new airport in Kastelli is owned by the Greek State (45.90%), GEK TERNA SA (32.46%), and GMR Airports Ltd (21.64%).
