Heraklion Municipality launches student safety and recycling initiatives
The Municipality of Heraklion has launched several educational initiatives aimed at students to promote safety and environmental responsibility.
From October 5 to October 9, the Deputy Mayor of Education, in collaboration with the Heraklion Traffic Department, is conducting a road safety program at the Traffic Education Park in Nea Alikarnassos. The interactive program teaches students about pedestrian and cyclist safety, road signs, and responsible behavior. The initiative involves various emergency and safety services, including the Fire Service, EKAB, Municipal Police, Coast Guard, and the Hellenic Red Cross.
Additionally, the municipality is organizing its fifth annual School Recycling Marathon, ‘Pame Anakyklose’. This program invites primary, middle, and high schools to participate in waste management by collecting paper, plastic, aluminum, and batteries. Participating schools earn points based on the quantities collected, which are tracked via the Followgreen platform. The initiative aims to foster a culture of circular economy and sustainability among the younger generation.
