Heraklion officials assess weather damage and plan emergency response

Heraklion Mayor Alexis Kalokairinos convened meetings with the Civil Protection team and community presidents to assess damage caused by recent severe weather in the region. The discussions focused on evaluating impacts to road networks, agricultural infrastructure, crops, and private property.

The municipality is compiling a comprehensive dossier of damages to present to government officials. Mayor Kalokairinos has requested that the Municipality, specifically the Temenos Municipal Unit and the 3rd Municipal Community of Heraklion, be declared in a state of emergency.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled for October 5 in Crete with the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Kostas Katsafados, to plan restoration measures and secure state aid and compensation for affected citizens.
