Heraklion residents protest planned migrant hospitality structure

Residents of the Athanati area in Heraklion have organized protests to oppose the planned location of a temporary migrant hospitality structure. Demonstrators gathered on the Heraklion–Messara provincial road, specifically near the Skoulidis warehouses, to demand a reconsideration of the site selection.

Protesters blocked the road by placing chairs on the pavement and displayed Greek flags. Local citizens and officials have raised several concerns regarding the proposed site, including inadequate traffic connections, the lack of a sewage network, urban planning issues, and the general conditions of the Heraklion–Moires road axis. The community is calling on authorities to provide technical and administrative clarity and to seek an alternative location for the facility.
