Herceg Novi and Croatia launch Adriatic marine clean‑up initiatives

The municipality of Herceg Novi (Montenegro) opened a €39,000 tender to contract a contractor for cleaning eight underwater sites in the Herceg Novi Bay, including the Škver harbour area, the Sutorina River mouth and the Luštica peninsula. Work is slated to begin in early July, with crews operating from 5 a.m. to avoid disturbing swimmers, and the project is fully funded by the local government.

In Croatia, the "Sretno more" initiative led by TeleMach and local partners has removed about 7.5 tonnes of waste from six coastal and underwater locations over the past year. The program combines clean‑up actions with technology such as 5G‑linked drones and an autonomous underwater vessel, and it also runs educational activities for roughly 1,200 children. New clean‑up actions are planned for Skradin and Dubrovnik later this year. Both projects aim to improve marine ecosystems and support tourism in the Adriatic Sea.
