Herceg Novi Assembly demands inquiry into water restrictions

The Herceg Novi Municipality Assembly has unanimously adopted conclusions following an emergency session regarding severe water supply restrictions experienced between September 7 and 16.

The assembly's first conclusion calls for the Mayor's office to form an independent commission composed of renowned experts to investigate the actual causes behind the recent water shortages. The second conclusion requires the Mayor's office, in cooperation with the local water utility company, 'Vodovod i kanalizacija Herceg Novi', to prepare a proposal of measures and a clear financial plan before the 2027 budget is adopted. These measures aim to improve water supply stability during the summer season and prevent future restrictions.

The session included lengthy debates involving officials from the Regional Waterworks of the Montenegrin Coast, including executive director Krsto Radović, board chairman Boro Lučić, and current water utility director Olivera Doklestić. While the assembly reached a consensus on the need for investigation and planning, officials expressed differing views regarding the causes of the shortages and the potential expertise of an independent commission.
