Herceg Novi citizens launch initiative to name street after director Živko Nikolić

A citizen initiative is currently underway in Herceg Novi to name a street or public space after the legendary Montenegrin and Yugoslav film director Živko Nikolić. Residents can sign the proposal at the ground floor desk of the City Library and Reading Room on Belavista.

Proponents argue that as a city of film, culture, and art, Herceg Novi has an obligation to honor Nikolić, whose work is a vital part of Montenegro's cultural heritage. Nikolić had deep ties to the city, having attended the local Art School where he studied pottery and ceramics—an education credited with shaping his unique visual film aesthetic. He was also a long-time contributor to the Herceg Novi Film Festival from its inception in 1987 until his death.

For the proposal to succeed, it must pass through the municipal Council for Proposing Names of Settlements, Streets, and Squares, receive consent from the Ministry of Culture and Media, and ultimately gain approval from the Municipal Assembly.
