Herceg Novi gondola project faces administrative delays
The construction of a panoramic gondola connecting Igalo and Ilinica in Herceg Novi remains stalled due to pending documentation and administrative hurdles. The project, valued at approximately 11.9 million euros including VAT, is intended to enhance the region's tourism offerings.
Stevan Katić, President of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, stated that environmental impact assessments are nearing completion. However, the project faces significant delays while awaiting necessary approvals and decisions from the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property. Katić noted that the Administration's limited administrative and human resources have led to long waiting periods for opinions and consents, which in turn slows down various public infrastructure projects in the municipality.
Once the cultural heritage approvals are secured, the winning contractor must develop the main project to obtain a building permit and resolve remaining property-legal relations. Katić emphasized the need to strengthen the Administration's capacity to expedite these procedures and resolve the current moratorium affecting the area.
