Herceg Novi market tenants protest planned relocation
Market stall tenants in Herceg Novi are protesting a planned relocation of the central city market, which is scheduled to take place by October 1. The move is intended to allow for space adaptation and the installation of a monument to Mirko Komnenović.
While local authorities and representatives from the Communal-Housing Enterprise have reached an agreement to move the stalls to the 'Mala' (Small) market, tenants claim they have not received official notification. Some tenants argue the relocation is legally unfounded, noting they hold valid lease agreements until the end of the year.
Disputes have arisen regarding the transparency of the process. Some stallholders allege that the monument is a pretext to clear the area for private development, specifically citing plans for apartments or an apart-hotel on land owned by the company ‘Mješovito’. Tenants have expressed concerns about overcrowding at the alternative location and have announced intentions to pursue legal action and protests.
