Herceg Novi to discuss Prevlaka peninsula legal status
The Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly has added an item to its August 31 agenda regarding the formal legal status of the Prevlaka peninsula and Cape Oštro. The initiative was proposed by the Boke Kotorska NGO Council following a recent roundtable discussion on the matter.
While the determination of state borders is a matter of national jurisdiction handled through diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Croatia, the local parliament's decision to discuss the topic has drawn attention. Some officials have expressed uncertainty regarding the notification process for the agenda addition, while others, such as SNP member Bogdan Božović, argue that local discussion on the subject is appropriate given its prominence in both Montenegrin and Croatian media. Božović stated that local debates on such issues should not weaken Montenegro's negotiating position with Croatia.
