Hercegbosanska Canton foreign labor trends shift from Bangladesh to Nepal
Data from the Employment Office in Livno reveals shifting trends in foreign labor within the Hercegbosanska Canton. In 2025, the region issued a total of 50 work permits to foreign nationals. Of these, 44 were new permits and six were extensions of existing ones. The majority of these workers were employed in the construction sector (25 permits) and the wood processing industry (12 permits).
Citizens of Bangladesh represented the largest group of foreign workers in 2025, accounting for 35 permits. Other nationalities included citizens from Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Brazil, India, Canada, Hungary, and Slovenia.
For the period from the beginning of 2026 through August 21, 17 work permits have been issued, consisting of 12 new permits and five extensions. This year, the trend has shifted toward citizens of Nepal, who received 11 of the 12 new permits. These workers are primarily employed in the meat processing industry, specifically in meat processing roles. Officials noted that the trend of employing foreign nationals is a broader phenomenon observed across the European labor market.
