Hercegovina-Neretva Canton urges judiciary union to end strike

The Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) has called on the judiciary workers' union to end its strike. The dispute centers on a demand by the Unified Union of State Officials and Employees in the Judiciary of HNK to receive a 20 percent supplement for special working conditions for all judicial employees without exception.

The HNK Government stated that this demand cannot be accepted. According to the government, a decision made on September 22 established that such supplements can only be granted to specific positions where special working conditions objectively exist and differ from comparable roles in the civil service.

The government emphasized that granting the 20 percent supplement to all employees, regardless of their specific duties or actual working conditions, would transform the supplement into a general salary increase for only one category of civil servants. They argued that such a move lacks a legal basis under existing regulations and the Collective Agreement for officials of administrative and judicial authorities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and would result in unequal treatment of employees performing similar roles in other state administration bodies.
