Heredia: 12-year-old boy dies after falling from 12th floor

A 12-year-old boy has died after falling from the 12th floor of the Altamira Club Residencial complex in San Pablo de Heredia. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the residential towers located in Rincón de Sabanilla.

Emergency responders from the Cruz Roja Costarricense stabilized the child at the scene, where he was diagnosed with critical polytrauma. Following an escorted transport by municipal police, he was first taken to Hospital San Vicente de Paúl and subsequently transferred to the Hospital Nacional de Niños in San José.

Dr. Carlos Jiménez, director of the Hospital Nacional de Niños, noted that the child had been in the Intensive Care Unit on mechanical ventilation. Medical staff expressed surprise at the child's initial survival following a 36-meter fall, but his death was confirmed on Wednesday. Judicial authorities and investigative bodies are currently working to determine the exact circumstances of the fall.
