Alajuelense defeats Herediano 3-0, putting coach Giacone's future in doubt

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Club Sport Herediano in a provincial classic, leaving the defending champions in a state of crisis. Goals from Rashir Parkins, Jeison Lucumí, and Kenyel Michel secured the win for Alajuelense, who controlled much of the match.

Following the heavy defeat, Herediano coach José Giacone assumed full responsibility for the team's performance, noting that the squad had not yet secured a victory in the Apertura 2026 tournament. Giacone also defended his players against suggestions of internal friction, stating that the players are “better than the journalists.”

The loss has placed Giacone’s position in serious jeopardy. Reports indicate that Herediano’s leadership, including president Jafet Soto, is expected to hold emergency meetings to decide the coach's future, as the team struggles with poor domestic form and disappointing results in the Copa Centroamericana.
