Heriot-Watt University appoints Nola Hewitt-Dundas as Principal

Heriot-Watt University has appointed Professor Nola Hewitt-Dundas as its new Principal and Vice-Chancellor. Hewitt-Dundas, an expert in innovation and science policy, transitions to the role from Queen’s University Belfast, where she served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

Her appointment marks a historic milestone for the institution, as she is the first woman to hold the position. Her leadership begins as the university prepares to launch ‘Strategy 2035’ in October, a decadal plan designed to define the institution’s future direction and ambitions.

Bruce Pritchard, Chair of Court at Heriot-Watt University, noted that Hewitt-Dundas possesses a distinguished research record and an understanding of how academic ideas can benefit society. Hewitt-Dundas emphasized the university’s long-standing commitment to practical education, research, and entrepreneurship.
